How much does a tow cost in Chicago?
How much does a tow cost in Chicago?
Quick Tow Chicago does not set or publish the independent operator's rates. Give the line your vehicle, pickup location, destination and access details; the operator confirms the price and what it covers before dispatch.
Do you charge extra at night, weekends, or holidays?
The line takes calls 24/7. Ask what the call costs when you ring, including any after-hours charge, and you will have the number before the truck rolls.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment methods are set by the independent operator. Ask which methods are accepted when the operator confirms the quote, before dispatch.
Do you work with insurance or motor clubs?
Coverage and dispatch rules depend on your policy or membership. Contact your insurer or motor club to confirm benefits and whether it must arrange the service; if you call Quick Tow directly, ask the operator what documentation is available before dispatch.
How fast can you get to me?
How fast can you get to me?
Arrival depends on your exact location and an independent operator's availability. Give the line your address, nearest exit or pin location, then ask the operator for an arrival window when the job is confirmed.
What areas do you cover?
We cover 35 places across the Chicago metro: the six sides of the city itself, the north and northwest suburbs from Evanston out to Schaumburg, the west suburbs from Oak Park out to Aurora and Elgin, the south and southwest suburbs from Oak Lawn to Chicago Heights, and the Will County freight corridor through Joliet. All of it is in Illinois. Northwest Indiana is deliberately not covered, so if your car went missing east of the state line in Hammond or Gary, that is a different state's law and we will say so rather than guess.
Do you respond to freeways?
Yes. The Kennedy, the Dan Ryan, the Eisenhower, the Stevenson, the Edens, the Bishop Ford, the Tri-State, I-88, I-57 and I-80. IDOT runs an Emergency Traffic Patrol on the Chicago-area expressways, the crews known as the Minutemen, and they clear hazards and restore traffic flow rather than towing you. If police are on scene the officer decides who tows and where it goes; inside the city that means a City of Chicago pound, and in a suburb it means that village's own impound.
What if I break down out near Joliet, Elgin or Aurora?
Those communities are within the 35-place service area. Pin-drop your location or give the nearest exit, cross street or mile marker, describe the vehicle and problem, and let the operator confirm availability and equipment for the job.
Which tow truck does my car need?
Flatbed or wheel-lift - which does my car need?
The correct method depends on the vehicle manufacturer's towing instructions, drivetrain, clearance and whether its wheels roll freely. Give the operator the year, make, model and condition, and check the towing section of the owner's manual before the method is confirmed.
Can you tow my Tesla or EV?
Call with the exact year, make, model, battery state and whether the vehicle can enter its transport or tow mode. The matched operator must confirm the equipment and follow that vehicle's manufacturer instructions before dispatch.
Do you tow motorcycles and RVs?
The line accepts motorcycle and RV requests. Give the bike, scooter, trike, motorhome or trailer type, its condition and location; the independent operator confirms whether suitable equipment is available before dispatch.
Can you do long-distance tows out of Chicago?
Call with the pickup, destination, vehicle condition and access at both ends. An independent operator confirms whether the route and schedule are available and quotes the job before dispatch.
Do you offer roadside help besides towing?
Can you jump-start my car?
Call with the vehicle year, make and model and describe what happens when you try to start it. The operator confirms whether jump-start service is appropriate and what equipment is available; a shop should diagnose a battery, alternator or starter fault.
Will you change a flat tire for me?
Call with your location, vehicle and whether you have an inflated spare, jack and locking-lug key. The operator confirms the available service. On an active freeway shoulder, stay belted with hazards on and follow law-enforcement or IDOT instructions.
Do you deliver fuel?
Call with the exact fuel type and location. The independent operator confirms whether delivery is available, the quantity and the full quote before dispatch.
Can you unlock my car?
Call with the vehicle year, make and model and explain whether the key is locked inside, lost or damaged. The operator confirms whether lockout service is suitable or whether you need an automotive locksmith or dealer.
Will my insurance cover the tow after an accident?
Will my insurance cover the tow after an accident?
Coverage depends on your policy and the circumstances. Contact your insurer to confirm benefits, required dispatch steps and documentation; ask the independent operator what receipt or job details it provides.
Do you coordinate with Illinois State Police and local departments?
If law enforcement orders the tow, the officer controls the removal and destination; inside Chicago that can mean a City pound, while a suburb uses its own impound process. If the vehicle is released or the tow is not police-ordered, call the line for an operator-confirmed quote.
Can you tow a vehicle to a specific body shop?
For a tow you request, give the preferred destination when you call and have the operator confirm it before dispatch. A police-ordered tow follows the destination selected by the agency, and a receiving shop may have its own hours or intake rules.
How does private property and HOA towing work?
Can my HOA or apartment get a private-property agreement?
Yes, and Illinois handles this differently from most states, so it is worth being precise. In Cook, Will, Kane, DuPage and Winnebago counties a tow from private property is a relocation under 625 ILCS 5/18a, and it may only be performed by a commercial vehicle relocator licensed by the Illinois Commerce Commission. We are not that licensee and we do not pretend to be. What we do is connect property managers, HOAs and retail landlords with relocators who hold that license, and help them get the signage right: at least 24 inches high by 36 inches wide, mounted at least 4 feet off the ground but less than 8, illuminated or painted with reflective paint or both, naming the relocator and stating the towing charge. Without those signs the removal is unlawful under 18a-300(10).
What do I do if my car was towed from private property?
First work out who towed it, because there are three different answers. If a private property had it relocated, ask the police in that jurisdiction where it went. Photograph the lot signs. If the City of Chicago towed it, call 311, because the city also relocates vehicles rather than impounding them, and the published fees are $250 to tow under 8,000 pounds or $350 at or above, plus $50 or $100 per day storage, cash or major card only. If a suburb towed it, call that village directly, because its impound and its administrative fee are its own.
